The Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary (RPNGC) continues to provide and increase direct support to the country’s extractive (oil and gas, mining) industries.

In his recent police ministerial updates, Minister for Internal Security, Peter Tsiamalili jr. has advised of an Investigations Task Force Team that has been established in all Divisional Commands to address major unresolved criminal cases in strategic mining areas.

An operational plan has been developed for the Western Force Special Policing Arrangement, which will deploy 230 personnel to the Western End Command, which covers Western Highlands, Simbu and Jiwaka to assist the local police.

A separate NEC policy submission will be submitted for endorsement and support.

Further development in the police force has seen the establishment of a Family Sexual Violence Unit (FSVU) in all major police provincial centers to address gender-based violence.

Minister Tsiamalili jr. said FSVU has been absorbed into the recurrent budgetary system and allocated a budget code.
