The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and NASFUND signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today to progress the adoption and integration of SevisPass (Digital ID) and SevisWallet (Digital Wallet) as part of a joint initiative to promote financial inclusion and digital transformation in Papua New Guinea.
Under the agreement, SevisPass will be utilized for eKYC (Know Your Customer) processes to streamline NASFUND’s customer onboarding and authentication. Customers will also be able to authenticate their identity when accessing NASFUND’s digital platforms. SevisWallet will store NASFUND’s digital membership cards, enabling secure QR code and NFC-enabled transactions.
The agreement outlines cooperation in four key areas:
- SevisPass Integration: Streamlining NASFUND’s customer onboarding through eKYC processes, enabling third-party enrolment, and allowing customers to authenticate their identity across NASFUND’s digital platforms.
- SevisWallet Integration: Storing NASFUND’s digital membership cards in SevisWallet, while enabling secure QR code and NFC-enabled transactions.
- Enhanced Customer Experience: Expanding access to financial and government services via the SevisPortal.
- Financial Inclusion: Extending digital identity and wallet services to underserved populations.
NASFUND CEO Mr Rajeev Sharma emphasized on how the PNG’s Digital ID will address a lot of issues and challenges currently faced in the superannuation area, stating that it is a way they can demonstrate more capabilities to deliver more value to members.
DICT Secretary Mr Steven Matainaho explained that the SevisWallet App and the SevisPass Digital ID is a Digital Public Infrustructure that provides shared opportunity to broaden access and participation from government, business and citizens.
