Cybersecurity professionals and partners from across the Pacific have gathered in Port Moresby for the 2026 Pacific Cyber Security Operational Network (PaCSON) Annual General Meeting.
The meeting, held at the AP brings together the PaCSON Secretariat, heads of delegations, CERT and CSIRT representatives, cybersecurity professionals, partners and other participants from across the region.
Papua New Guinea is hosting the AGM, which includes a cybersecurity information exchange and cybersecurity workshops.
Opening the meeting, Minister for Information and Communications Technology Robert Naguri said the gathering provided an opportunity for Pacific countries to share information and strengthen cooperation on cybersecurity.
He encouraged members to talk openly about their experiences, including the progress they had made and the challenges they continued to face.
The Minister also asked members to provide updates on cyber activities and threats being seen in their respective countries.
He said cyber threats did not respect national borders and that the security of one Pacific country could be linked to the security of its neighbours.
Mr Naguri said PaCSON brought together working-level cybersecurity and incident response professionals from across the region.
He said the network’s work to build incident response capabilities, improve technical skills and share information about cyber threats was important to regional cybersecurity.
DICT Secretary Steven Matainaho also welcomed participants and thanked those who travelled to PNG for the meeting.
Mr Matainaho said PaCSON had given PNG a trusted community that it could turn to for information and advice on technology and cybersecurity.
He said the network had helped build relationships and trust among people working in the sector.
Mr Matainaho said PNG was grateful for the opportunity to chair the AGM and would continue to support PaCSON.
He encouraged participants to use the meetings and workshops to exchange information, strengthen partnerships and build trust across the region.
The AGM provides Pacific cybersecurity professionals with an opportunity to share knowledge, discuss regional challenges and strengthen cooperation on cybersecurity.
