The Government through the Department of Information and Communications Technology is about to launch a new digital ID platform that will make public services faster, easier, and more secure. This is part of the government’s plan to create a FULLY INTEGRATED DIGITAL GOVERNMENT.
At the 7th Futures Forum hosted at the Hilton Hotel, Port Moresby, Mr Joshua Pomaloh, Manager for Media and Government Websites at the DICT, spoke about the SevisPNG Project.
This project has four main parts:
- SevisPass (Digital ID): A new digital identity that works independently of the current National ID, using other IDs to create a secure online profile for citizens and businesses.
- SevisPortal: A single online platform where people can access many government services with one login.
- SevisDEx: A system that allows government agencies and private companies to share data securely.
- SevisPay: A digital payment system for government and private transactions.
Pomaloh explained that this digital ID will act as “your digital footprint,” reducing paperwork and speeding up identity verification. It can also be used by banks and telcos through an API, making processes faster and more secure.
The government plans to launch new features soon, such as police clearance applications, a residence pass system, arrival cards for travelers, and digital payments.
These systems are being built with strong security measures, including multi-factor authentication and live photo verification.
The full rollout of the platform, called the SevisDeck, is scheduled for March 2026, with some features like the residence pass and e-government portal going live before Independence Day next month.
Overall, PNG is working hard to build a smarter, more connected country where digital IDs and integrated systems make life easier for everyone.
