The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), with support from the National Information and Communications Technology Authority (NICTA), National Fisheries Authority (NFA), Prime Minister’s Department, and the Department of Works and Highways (DoWH), successfully hosted the first-ever Government Public Relations Officers (PRO) Networking Event.

The event marked a major step toward unified government messaging and improved public communication.

DICT Deputy Officer-in-Charge Fierl Shongol urged PROs to break away from siloed communication and “speak with one voice” to ensure citizens receive accurate, consistent information.

First Secretary to ICT Minister Mr Joseph Elaedona echoed the call, emphasizing truth over propaganda.

“Our duty is to tell the truth. That’s how we rebuild trust with our people,” he said.

The initiative is part of the Media Development Policy, which includes reviving government media platforms, establishing a central media studio, and promoting ethical, coordinated messaging across all levels of government.

This milestone event lays the foundation for a stronger, transparent, and more connected public service communication network.

Paul Maima from the National Statistical Office commended DICT for its leadership, saying the event was “an executive-class experience that inspired pride, unity, and a shared vision for a better nation.”

The Department of ICT invites all government Public Relations and Media units to engage with the department to enhance content production, boost public engagement across their respective sectors or agencies, and ensure citizens are well-informed of progress and developments.
