Australia Awards Papua New Guinea has introduced a new scholarship to support women pursuing careers in cybersecurity and was officially launched today at the Australian High Commission in Papua New Guinea.
The Georgina Kiele Scholarship for Women in Cybersecurity is named in honor of Ms. Georgina Kiele (1985 – 2025), a pioneer in Papua New Guinea’s technology sector.
This scholarship offers an opportunity for aspiring female cybersecurity professionals to study for a Master of Cybersecurity or a related course at an Australian university.
The selected recipient will also have the chance to gain hands-on experience by working with top cybersecurity experts in Australia.
Georgina Kiele dedicated over 11 years of her life to public service through her work with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT). She played a major role in shaping PNG’s digital landscape by developing cybersecurity and digital policies that strengthened the country’s technology sector.
Beyond her contributions to technology, Georgina was a passionate advocate for women’s empowerment and education. She strongly believed in the power of knowledge and worked to create opportunities for women in the field of cybersecurity. This scholarship will continue her legacy by supporting and inspiring future generations of women in technology.
Cybersecurity is essential in today’s digital world. It helps protect businesses, organizations, and individuals from cyber threats. A strong cybersecurity system also attracts investment, drives economic growth, and ensures national security.
