Sama Seolo’s inspiring journey to becoming a public servant began as an intern with the Department of Information and Communications Technology’s end-of-year internship program in 2021.
His impressive performance caught the attention of his superiors, but complications with his graduation application prevented him from graduating that year. Despite this setback, Sama persevered and applied for a position at the Department the following year.
Thanks to his previous experience as an intern, he was recruited as the Sector Funding Officer, with a one-year probationary period.
During his probationary period, Sama worked tirelessly to prove himself as a valuable asset to the Department.
He firmly believes that “Leadership and commitment with upholding ethical values and standards are very important and vital to achieving an organization’s objective.”
His hard work and dedication paid off when he was inducted into public service at the prestigious Somare Institute of Leadership and Governance on April 21, 2023, just four days before his graduation.
On April 24, 2023, Sama’s efforts culminated in him graduating with a Bachelor of Public Policy Management at the University of Papua New Guinea’s 68th graduation ceremony
This proud moment was witnessed by his family, who saw firsthand his perseverance and determination to succeed despite the challenges he faced.
Reflecting on his journey, Sama says, “It was difficult, but I always tell myself not to give up. Being positive and accepting every challenge is always the main drive.”
He also acknowledges that DICT was his first professional experience, where he was pushed beyond his comfort zone and discovered ample opportunities, especially for young people looking to advance their careers and make a positive impact in their community.
