The Prime Minister has announced the formal appointment of Hon. Peter Tsiamalili Jr., current Minister for Police, as Acting Minister for Information and Communication Technology.

This acting appointment, confirmed under National Gazette No. G738 on 30 July 2025, follows the incumbent ICT Minister’s temporary leave due to medical reasons.

Minister for Police Hon. Peter Tsiamalili Jr. will now oversee the Department of ICT and all affiliated agencies, including the National Broadcasting Corporation and NICTA.

As part of his expanded responsibilities, Minister Tsiamalili Jr. will also represent Papua New Guinea at the Pacific ICT Dialogue 2025 in Suva, Fiji, 8th August, acting in Minister Masiu’s stead. This is part of the government’s commitment to regional collaboration on digital transformation and cybersecurity.

His immediate priorities include:

  • Full Digitalization of Police Services Digitisation of police clearance, firearm licensing, incident reporting systems, and establishment of a National Criminal Database.
  • Immediate Rollout of the Interoperability Platform Integration across public databases including NID, MVIL, SIM registration, education systems, and criminal records. Includes digital identity verification and background checks.
  • Introduction of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Adoption of AI for surveillance, predictive policing, and real-time threat analysis.

Stakeholders across government and industry have been urged to support Hon. Tsiamalili Jr. in driving reform across ICT platforms during this interim period.
